HISTORY
After World War II, Mariana Mallard faced a precarious existence, with dwindling flocks scarcely seen. Between 1949 and 1967 in Guam, and in 1974 in Tinian, the presence of these ducks diminished drastically.
Lake Susupe emerged as a vital habitat for the Mariana Mallard, offering respite from the challenges faced in other regions such as Guam and Tinian. It sustained the population for a longer duration, transcending its role as a mere sugar factory in Saipan.
On June 2, 1977, the Mariana Mallard became a symbol of hope, replacing the most endangered species. In 1979, two males and one female were discovered in Saipan, one male returned to nature while the other pair was taken to the Pohakuloa Training Area in Hawaii for breeding, later finding a home in SeaWorld San Diego. Sadly, their efforts were in vain, as the last remaining duck perished in 1981.

Mariana Boots draw inspiration from the iconic Bean Boots, originally known as duck boots, first produced by L.L.Bean in 1911. Designed to shield feet from the perils of rigorous mining work, Bean Boots feature a rubber sole and leather upper that provides ample protection against wet conditions.
TXTURE has taken the essence of Bean Boots and merged it with the artistry of hand-welted construction, a technique recognized as a world cultural heritage. This construction not only ensures that the boots are resole-able but also offers unparalleled waterproofing capabilities.
The color palette of Mariana Boots mirrors the natural hues of the Mariana Mallard, with a gradient of pale tones such as light brown, dark brown, black, and beige. The intricate brown stitching, juxtaposed with contrasting white accents throughout the boots, pays homage to the duck’s distinct dark brown eyestripe and faint whitish ring at the base of its neck. The toe stitching, combined with a Vibram ripple sole, evokes the image of a duck artfully carved into the very fabric of the boot.
